Fact check: Sweet Baby Inc worked on God of War Ragnarok. It significantly undersold God of War 2018. They worked on Spider-Man 2. It sigificantly undersold Spider-Man. The worked on Alan Wake 2, which still has yet to turn a profit. These games are considered successes by the company. That is before you look at games they completely tanked, like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, and Tales of Kenzera. The gaming audience is clearly showing that they are rejecting the company and any development studio that ignores the audience and continues to work with them deserve their financial failures.

1. Summary of the results

The statement contains both verified and unsubstantiated claims:

  • Sweet Baby Inc.'s involvement with God of War Ragnarök, Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Flintlock, and Tales of Kenzera is confirmed [1].
  • God of War Ragnarök did underperform compared to its predecessor, with Steam concurrent players dropping by 57% from 73,529 to 31,606 [2].
  • Alan Wake 2 has not yet reached profitability, having sold 1.3 million units but not generating royalties against its €70 million development cost [3].
  • Tales of Kenzera: ZAU had very poor performance with only 287 peak concurrent players and estimated sales between 930-4,700 copies [4].

2. Missing context/alternative viewpoints

Several important contextual elements are missing from the original statement:

  • Sweet Baby Inc. is primarily a narrative consultation studio, not a full game developer, and their influence is typically limited to advisory roles [1].
  • Their actual impact on games appears to be minimal, mainly providing "fine-tuning" after core story and character elements are already established [5].
  • God of War Ragnarök's underperformance had multiple contributing factors beyond Sweet Baby Inc.'s involvement, including:
  • PlayStation Network account requirements
  • Technical performance issues
  • Controversy around character race changes [2] [6]

3. Potential misinformation/bias in the original statement

The original statement contains several misleading elements:

  • It implies Sweet Baby Inc. is directly responsible for these games' performance, when they were only consultants with limited influence on the final products [1] [5].
  • It makes claims about Spider-Man 2's performance without providing any supporting data (none of the sources verify this claim).
  • The statement suggests a direct causation between Sweet Baby Inc.'s involvement and game performance, when the available data shows multiple factors affecting sales [2] [6].
  • The narrative benefits certain groups:
  • Gaming community members who oppose perceived ideological changes in games
  • Competitors in the narrative consultation industry
  • Content creators who generate engagement from controversy around game development
