PROTECT Act and Child Pornography

The PROTECT Act makes drawn or animated sexual depictions of minors prosecutable under federal law. The law has been applied in various cases, including those involving anime and manga, with mixed results. The Supreme Court has ruled that non-obscene virtual depictions are protected speech, but federal prosecutors can still secure convictions under the Act if they prove the material is obscene.
